RESERVE – Playing in one of the most competitive districts in the area, featuring the state runners-up Destrehan Wildcats as well as the Hahnville Tigers, the East St. John Wildcats got some of their own post-season recognition.

The Wildcats placed three players on the All-District squad for 6-5A. Senior Alex McCollum was one of four pitchers selected and outfielders Ryan Perrilloux and Greg Sentimore took home two of the four outfield spots.

Head Coach Rod Barrilleaux said he was extremely happy for his three players, especially after all the adversity that they along with the rest of the Wildcats had to deal with this season.

“To be in a district with two of the top ten teams in the state and get three on the squad is quite an accomplishment,” Barrilleaux said. “Particularly for Alex because he made it on a team that featured the likes of Beau Jones and several other very quality pitchers.”

The lesser known of the East St. John threesome, Sentimore had a phenomenal season for the Wildcats, hitting over .400 in the leadoff spot.

“He hit .449 in district play,” Barrilleaux said. “He was a threat to steal a base at anytime and he was also a threat to bunt at any moment.

“If he just put the ball in play, he was a threat to get on base.”

The award for Perrilloux wraps up a phenomenal prep career for the multi-talented star.

“If you watched Ryan play out there you could tell that he was named to this team because of his talent,” Barrilleaux said. “Not just because his name was Ryan Perrilloux. Any ball hit in the outfield was either hauled in by he or Sentimore and he was a threat to drive in runs every time he stepped up to the plate.”

McCollum also wrapped up a solid career as the Wildcats ace on the mound.

“When the voting concluded, his name was in the four pitchers that came up,” Barrilleaux said. “It was nearly a unanimous decision. To be named to this squad with the talent in this district is a great honor for Alex and shows how solid of a year he had.”
