VACHERIE – Elmo Joseph Becnel Sr., 83, a native of Houma and resident of Vacherie and Garyville, died May 21. He was the husband of the late Mary Alice Labat Becnel.

He is survived by his children Elmo (Susie) Becnel Jr., Bonita (Paul) Bush and Georgette (Michael) Guillot.

He is also survived by five siblings, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were held on May 24 at the Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment in the Church Mausoleum.

BOURGEOIS

LULING – Marie Louise Bourgeois, 78, a native of Killona and a resident of Luling, died May 21. She was the wife of Joseph “Knock-A-Boot” Bourgeois.

She is survived by her children Joseph Jr., Carl, Deryce, Terry, Keith, Wayne and David Bourgeois, Linda Boudreaux, Elaine Tallman, Debbie Page and Sharon Metrejean.

She is also survived by 12 brothers and sisters, 32 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services were held on May 24 at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Luling, with interment in the St. Charles Mausoleum, Luling.

CALLEGAN

HOUMA – Sterling George Callegan Sr., 77, a native of LaPlace and a resident of Houma, died May 20. He was the Husband by first marriage of Ouida H. Callegan and by second marriage Juanita F. Callegan.

He is survived by his children Wesley, Sterling Jr. and Tyler (Christine) Callegan, Julie (Terry) Porche, Leslie (Jerry) Gautreaux, Sally (Mark) Breaux, Lisa Callegan, Trina (Jeffery) LeCompte and Stacy Callegan.

He is also survived by four brothers, one sister, two stepchildren, 17 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 24 at the First Baptist Church, Houma, with interment in the St. Francis de Sales #2 Cemetery.

GAUTIER

WALLACE – Georgiana O. Gautier, 98, a native of Vacherie and a resident of Wallace, died May 18.

She is survived by her children Larry, Elwood and Whitmore J Gautier Jr., Allison G. Roussel, Deola G. Duronslet and Lois Gautier.

She is also survived by 36 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and six great great-grandchildren.

Services were held May 23 at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment in the church cemetery.

HAYDEL

LUTCHER – Denis Joseph “Red” Haydel Jr., 85, a native of Gramercy and a resident of Lutcher, died May 22. He was the husband by first marriage of Elva Lambert Haydel and by second marriage Gloria DeJean Haydel.

He is survived by his children Denis (Anne) Haydel III and Donald (Amelie) Haydel.

He is also survived by his siblings Grace H. Bourgeois, Ruby H. Montellus, Violet H. Gouge and Lloyd Haydel and four grandchildren Aimee H. Woodward, Amanda Haydel, Blake Haydel and Jessica Haydel.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment in the church mausoleum.

H.C. Alexander Funeral Home of Lutcher is in charge of arrangements. Visitation begins at 9 a.m.

LEWIS

LUTCHER – Eunice Robinson Lewis, 86, a native of New Orleans and a resident of Lutcher and Detroit, MI, died May 12.

Services were held May 23 at the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Paulina.

SONGY

RESERVE – Virginia Jacob Songy, 84, a native and resident of Reserve, died May 21. She was the wife of the late Edmond Songy Sr.

She is survived by her children Kathleen Frey, Kenneth Thomas and Timothy Songy.

She is also survived by her sister Rita Jacob, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Victor and Marie Jacob, son Edmond “Skipper” Songy Jr., siblings Whitney, Nora, Preston, Lawrence, Marie, Mildred, Agnes, Warren, Edna and Viola Jacob and stepsister Cecelia Pastureau.

Services were held May 24 at the Millet-Guidry Funeral Home Chapel, LaPlace, with interment in the St. Peter Church Cemetery, Reserve.

MOODY

VACHERIE – Clarence Lamb Robert Moody, 80, a native of Vacherie and a resident of New Orleans, died May 19. He was the husband of Marlene V. Moody.

He is survived by his children Irvin, Robert and Tom Moody, Jerome and Troy Tilquit and Miriam Moody.

He is also survived by his sister Cecile Melbert.

Services were held May 24 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, with interment in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Gretna.

WOODS

LULING – Kylyn Renee’ Woods, 4, a native of Metairie and a resident of Luling. She was the daughter of Eddie and Hope Woods.

She is survived by her grandparents Tom and Debbie Clark and Ed and Connie Woods.

She is also survived by her great-grandfather Charles E. Clark and friend Kayla Roth.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment in the All Saints Mausoleum Metairie Cemetery.

GARYVILLE – Nellie Mae Jones Young, 70, a native and resident of Garyville, died May 19. She was the wife of Freddie Young Sr.

She is survived by her children Freddie Jr., Bruce, Merlin and Bryan Young, Cheryl Y. Sambrone, Arlene C. Young and Darlene L. Aubert.

She is also survived by her brother Joseph L. Jones, 21 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness Lutcher Congregation, Paulina, with interment in the Zion Travelers Cemetery, Reserve.
