LAPLACE ‘d0’d0 Louisiana State Police Troop C is having their first annual open house on May 28 at the headquarters in Gray to give the community a chance to see a different side of State Police.

The open house will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the intersection of LA 24 and US 90 and will focus on the different services and technologies the Louisiana State Police (LSP) have to offer, according to Public Information Officer Matt Trahan.

‘d2Many members of the public only see one side of the State Police,’d3 said Captain Val Penouilh. ‘d2But we have much more to offer our citizens then a lot of people realize.’d3

The different sections of the LSP will offer demonstrations and static displays of their Haz Mat and Explosive Section, Air Unit, SWAT, State Police Mobile Command Center, State Police Narcotics section, Retired troopers with memorabilia from the past and various State Police cars will be on display to show the community their high-tech systems, according to Trahan.

‘d2We have a new K-9 unit,’d3 said Trahan. ‘d2This will be a good time for people to come and see what it’d5s all about. We are also combining our Memorial Day celebration into this weekend.’d3

According to Trahan the event is open to everyone and hamburgers, hotdogs and soft drinks will be provided free of charge.

A special feature provided by appointment only are Troopers on hand to check and install car seats, and to issue and take finger prints of children in which the parents will be allowed to keep in case of a need for them in the future, stated Trahan.

‘d2We are inviting as many people as possible to come out and see what we have to offer,’d3 said Penouilh. ‘d2Please accept this as a personal invitation and see what we have to offer.’d3

Appointments for the car seat installments can be made by contacting Matt Trahan at 985-857-3683.
