River Region Chamber hosts rally today for Airport proposal

LAPLACE — The River Region Chamber of Commerce will participate in the Bayou Region Day at the Louisiana Legislature today in Baton Rouge, in support of the Louisiana Transportation Center (LTC) and the Louisiana Airport Authority (LAA).

This program begins at 10 a.m. and will be held on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol. The event is designed to show support from area businesses and state legislators of the LTC project for the Donaldsonville Airport to the Governor, according to information provided by Executive Director Chassity McComack of the River Region Chamber of Commerce.

“Everyone is encourage to attend,” said McComack. “Bus transportation is being provided by the Port of South Louisiana and the three-parish economic development departments from St. Charles, St. James and St. John.”

McComack said some of the businesses to attend will be Echo Ventures, First American Bank, Entergy, Valero, BellSouth and Countrywide Home Loans.

Executive Director of the LAA Glenda Jeansonne said she plans to attend the event and appreciates the support of the community.

“The Chamber asked me to attend the rally,” said Jeansonne. “I will also be attended session with legislators and committee meetings.”

Jeansonne said some of the commissioners will be at the event in support of the LAA project.

Included at the event will include the rally on the steps at 10 a.m., Tour of the Capitol at 3 p.m. and a crawfish boil on the Governor’s Mansion lawn with music provided by Just-n-Tyme at 5:30 p.m.
