RESERVE-Four students from East St. John High School were recognized at the St. John the Baptist Parish School Board meeting recently for unique awards they received in technology.

Tiffany Brassette, Sophia Santacruz, Dale Kinsey and Amanda Monk won a total of five trophies in various competitions this past April at the Technology Student Association Conference in Bunkie, where they competed with other Louisiana schools.

They are all members of the Technology Student Association at East St. John High, and will compete at the national level in Chicago in June

The association springs from a course offered at the school called Module Research and Design, where students design a dragster car, and are given the option to join the association to they have the opportunity to vie for various awards in competitions such as technology quiz bowl, bridge building, and technology problem solving.

In the course, the students learn concepts such as aerodynamics, streamline, prototype and drag as they build their dragsters.

The students of the class demonstrated their cars to other members of the East St. John High student body on Monday. Beverly Britton is the teacher of the class as well as the advisor of the assocuation.
