RESERVE-As they said goodbye to their seniors, East St. John concluded their home regular season schedule Thursday afternoon with a 10-0 stomping of South Lafourche.

The game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.

With the win the Wildcats improve to 20-12 and 11-5 in district 6-5A which secures a third place finish for the Wildcats.

East St. John will take on the winner of the Rummel/Jesuit game which is tentatively scheduled to play this weekend in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs.

Scoring four runs in the first and three runs in the fourth inning, the Wildcats never looked back.

Playing in his last game at home, Alex McCollum finished 3-4 with a double, two singles and RBI. He also scored a run.

Seniors Travon Marshall and Steven Perrilloux also had solid nights, going 2-3. Travon had a pair of runs driven in and also scored two runs while Perrilloux had a triple, single and three runs scored.

McCollum picked up the complete-game victory, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking no one.

East St. John Head Coach Ronald Barrilleaux was happy with the victory.

“One of the goals in the season was 20 wins,” Barrilleaux said. ‘With this victory we were able to accomplish that. Defensively we did a good job, we didn’t have any significant errors. Our bats really stepped up and they remained hot from the last three games that we played. We have scored 31 runs in the last three games.”

Barrilleaux said that his team has the chance to have a special post-season if they continue to play as well as they are right now.

“We have to remain strong defensively,” Barrilleaux said. “And continue with good approaches at the plate and have good pitching which is always a must if you want to win.”
