VACHERIE – A possible medically related single vehicle traffic crash occurred Monday morning in St. James Parish, traveling eastbound on LA 20 in Vacherie.

The driver of the 1999 Ford F-150 pick up truck, was 72-year-old Ronald J. Waguespack Sr., of Vacherie.

According to the Louisiana State Police Public Information Officer, Matt Trahan, the crash was due to an apparent heart attack. Alcohol was not suspected in this crash, and he was wearing his seatbelt.

The vehicle crossed over the center line and traveled off the roadway to the left. Once off of the roadway, the pick up truck passed through a shallow ditch and traveled 475 feet into a sugar cane field before coming to a stop, according to Trahan.

There was minimal damage to the pick up truck, but Waguespack was taken to St. James Regional Hospital in Lutcher, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigations are being continued by Trooper Timothy Naquin.
