LaPlace man injured in buttocks in drive-by shooting

LAPLACE-A LaPlace man was injured in a drive-by shooting on Wednesday night, St. John Sheriff’s Office spokesman Maj. Michael Tregre reported.

According to St. John Parish sheriff’s office reports, Hayward Jones, 21, was in the roadway of the 200 block of Captain G. Bourgeois St. when the shooting occured.

Jones sustained a gunshot in the right buttocks as well as a grazing wound on his right thigh from a second shot. The assault occured at approximately 11 p.m.

Sheriff’s reports said Jones was being approached by a silver colored two-door vehicle from behind when two gunshots were fired. The vehicle then sped away in an unknown direction and Jones called 911 for assistance. He was then transported to and treated at River Parishes Hospital.

A search for the suspect’s vehicle was held with no results. The make and model of the vehicle is unknown.

Jones has reportedly said he knows the shooter, though no arrests have been made, Tregre said.
