DESTREHAN-Just when he was developing an actual pitching rotation, Destrehan Lady Wildcats Head Coach Russell Shaw is back to one.

The Lady Wildcats found out this week that they lost their number two pitcher Sloan Stumper to a stress fracture for the remainder of the 2005 season.

Despite not having Stumper, the Lady Wildcats won their game against Thibodaux on Thursday afternoon, 12-5.

Kaci Brady and Courtney Bertheleot carried the load at the plate for the Lady Wildcats.

Brady finished the game 3-5 with a double and a triple and Berthelot finished the game 2-3 with a pair of doubles and four runs driven in.

Julianne Beaugh also had a solid performance in the circle, picking up the complete-game victory after giving up only five runs on one hits and striking out six.

19-7-3 on the season, Shaw said Stumper will be tough to replace.

“Losing Sloan is a tragic situation that we are going to have to overcome,” Shaw said. “Not having her in the lineup will be tough. Her teammates are going to have to rally and pick her up.

“In the circle it is really difficult because she and Julianne compliment each other so well. Now we are going to have to ride Julianne most of the way if we are going to be successful in the circle. That is a lot of pressure to put on one girl’s shoulders.”
