Run-off set in St. Charles coroner’s race

HAHNVILLE-The St. Charles Parish coroner’s race on Saturday resulted in the need for a run-off election between doctors Monica Vial Benson (D-Luling) and Brian Brogle (R-Destrehan).

According to the St. Charles Parish clerk of court, Benson and Brogle beat out Dr. Dale Morris of Destrehan with Benson in the lead with 41% and Brogle earning 37% of the vote. The race ended with Morris having 22%.

Benson and Brogle both received over half of what made up the popular vote. Of the 4,550 voters, 1,872 voted for Benson and 1,679 voted for Brogle, justifying the run-off.

Benson specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is assistant coroner for St. Charles Parish. Brogle specializes in adult and pediatric urology.

The run-off will take place Saturday, April 23.
