Gunter a Hall of Famer

ST. LOUIS – Former LSU women’s basketball coach Sue Gunter has been named to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction Class of 2005 Monday morning at a press conference as part of the Final Four weekend of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.

Gunter, who retired following the conclusion of the 2004 season, led LSU to eight Sweet 16s, four Elite Eight appearances and one Final Four. She retired in 2004 as the third winningest coach in women’s NCAA history with 708 career victories.

Joining Gunter in the announced induction class for the ceremonies Sept. 8-10 in Springfield, Mass., are men’s basketball coaches Jim Boeheim of Syracuse, Jim Calhoun of Connecticut, former ABA and NBA coach Hubie Brown and Brazilian women’s basketball star Hortencia de Fatima Marcari.
