RESERVE-St. Charles Catholic and Riverside renewed their friendly rivalry this past weekend with the Comets traveled to Reserve for a double-header against the Lady Rebels.

A match-up between two very good teams, Riverside and the Lady Comets split the double-header with St. Charles Catholic winning the first game 1-0 and the Lady Rebels winning the second game 8-2.

Mary Clement picked up the complete-game win in the first game for the Lady Comets, giving up only one hit and striking out four.

Nicole Porrier was the winning pitcher for Riverside in the second game, giving up only five hits in four innings of work and striking out two.

The hitting stars of the weekend for the Lady Comets were Kayla Rebaldo and Brittany Morris. The duo combined to go 7-12.

Marci Millet was the star at the plate for the Lady Rebels in the second game, going 2-4 with a triple and driving in a pair of runs.

Riverside Head Coach Mickey Roussel was happy to come away with the split against the Lady Comets.

“The first game that ended up 1-0 we gave up an unearned run,” Roussel said. “So it really should have gone into extra innings. Then the first two innings of the second game we score seven runs. We really exploded at the plate.

“That is kind of how softball is. They (St. Charles Catholic) made a lot of good plays in the first game. We didn’t’ score any runs, but we did not strike out much either so we put the ball in play. You have to give St. Charles Catholic credit. They made the plays. I am happy with the way we have been hitting the ball. We are really seeing the ball well.”
