DESTREHAN-New pitcher, same result for the Detrehan Lady Wildcats.

Behind a complete game two-hitter from Sloan Stumper (3-1-1), Destrehan defeated Thibodaux Thursday afternoon, 10-0, in six innings.

Katie Lasserre and Casey Wilson provided the run support for Stumper as Lasserre was 2-2 at the plate and Wilson also went 2-2 with a home run.

A scoreless game heading into the third inning, Destrehan exploded for four runs in the third and put the game away in the fifth inning with six runs. The game was called after six due to the mercy rule.

Standing in first place in district 6-5A with a 13-5-3 record, Lady Wildcats Head Coach Russell Shaw is very pleased with his team’s performance during the last several games.

“We had a little trouble in the beginning adjusting to the timing of the Thibodaux pitcher,” Shaw said. “Once we got it down we came around and scored a bunch of runs on her.

“The kids executed well and did what we have to do. The kids are really playing together as a team right now. We are tied for first place in the district and we are right on track. We are right on course.

With ace Julianne Beaugh not able to go at game-time, Shaw was pleasantly surprised with Stumper’s performance in the circle.

“It’s comforting to know that we don’t have to rely on just Julianne,” Shaw said. “Sloan didn’t know she was pitching until game-time and she came in and did a really awesome job.”

The Lady Wildcats return to action this weekend when they welcome district rival Hahnville for a 11:00 first pitch on Saturday.

Destrehan will be off on Tuesday and will resum play on Thursday when they travel to Ellender for a 4:00 first pitch.
