EDGARD-After one of the most successful seasons in school history, the state runners-up of Class 2A received some individual accolades this recently.

West St. John placed three members on the all 10-2A squad as Tyren Johnson, Dana Stipe and Denarold Anderson all received some individual recognition for their team’s extraordinary year.

One of the most balanced teams in the state, team came first for the Rams and it proved to be successful, evident by the result of their season, playing for the state championship.

Coaching several of the boys basketball players to a state championship in football, West St. John Athletic Director Laury Dupont was happy to see the boys get some individual recognition.

“The reason that Coach Edwards and the team had such a successful season was that the kids played so unselfish,” Dupont said. “There was not one superstar on the team, it was just a complete and balanced team.”

Dupont said the unselfishness is a rare thing to see in the “me-first” mentality that sports has seem to become.

“That is what made it hard for team’s to scout us and prepare for us,” Dupont said. “Because there was not one person that was a leader in any category. Someone different every night was doing the scoring and rebounding. Everyone really played very good defense.

“That was the key to our team. We had a really good basketball team. We didn’t have any superstars.”

Overseeing all West St. John athletics, Dupont was very happy to see the Rams accomplish as much as they did in the 2004-05 season.

“I think it was one of the best years that Coach Edwards has ever had,” Dupont said. “To go with only three losses in the season and have one of them in the state championship game was a tremendous accomplishment.

“He and his staff did a tremendous job and they deserve all the accolades that they have received.”
