RESERVE-Behind David Rollo, the St. Charles Catholic Comets swept through the Riverside tournament over the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record.

The Comets defeated rival Riverside, 6-5, Ridgewood, 3-1, and Ceclia, 11-1.

Rollo was the hitting star of the tournament for the Comets, going 2-3 in his last game and hitting safely in all three games for St. Charles Catholic. For the tournament, he hit .500 (4-8) with two doubles, and three runs driven in.

With district 10-3A play less then two weeks away, Comets Head Coach Paul Waguespack likes how his team is playing.

“We played okay,” Waguespack said. “We still have another week to get ready for district. We have one more tournament that we are going to take part in.

“We are trying to get ready for district. That is all that we are trying to do because that is when it counts.”

Waguespack said his lineup is set as well as pitching rotation.

“We’re not experimenting anymore,” Waguespack said. “We have kind of settled in on who is going to play and things like that. We are pretty much set in on rotation and who is going to play.”

Despite that, Waguespack said he will still adjust the lineup and pitching rotation to have the hottest hitters.

“As long as everybody knows what is going on,” Waguespack said. “That is the important thing. Changes can happen, depending on who is playing well. We are trying to get the best nine guys on the field at that given moment and if that means changes have to be made and lineups adjusted, we will do that so we have the best chance to come away with the victory.”
