EDGARD-How great has it been to be a fan of the West St. John athletic program?

Let’s see, back-to-back state championships in football, and a state runners-up spot in boys basketball.

Some schools just hope to make the playoffs one season. Ram fans have been treated to some of the best days in West St. John history.

Also an assistant coach on the two-time defending state champion football team, West St. John boys basketball Head Coach Antoine Edwards said it is a special time to be a part of the West St. John family right now.

“This past championship in football is my third overall ring,” Edwards said. “Already had one in football before this and then the state championship in basketball in 2000. It’s a great feeling

“Anytime you can win a state championship, I don’t care what level it is on, it is exciting and something great. It is something that people really look forward to. Teams sometimes never get a chance to play for a championship and they may have great or fantastic teams.”

Solely relying on their elementary and junior highs as feeder schools, Edwards said if further recognizing the fact that the recent success at West St. John is just that much more special.

“Without a doubt we just have had a unbelievable string of good athletes come into our school,” Edwards said. “Everything has its season and our season has been very good. For us to get championships is unbelievable.”

“We are not able to get the better kids out there because of our situation. Really our only feeder school is West St. John Elementary School. Other schools have three or sometimes maybe even four other schools that feed into it and allow them to get that upper-echelon athlete. We’ve been very blessed.”
