HAHNVILLE – St. Charles Parish authorities charged a 60-year-old Luling man with sexual battery for allegedly having inappropriate sexual contact with his 4-year-old granddaughter.

According to Capt. Patrick Yoes, spokesman for the St. Charles Sheriff’s Office, the man was arrested on Feb. 15, at 11 p.m. after the adolescent’s mother reported the incident to authorities.

Yoes said the toddler told her older sister, who in turn told the girls’ mother.

“This took place approximately two months ago and it was a one-time incident,” said Yoes.

The man’s bond was set at $50,000 by Judge Emile St. Pierre.

Thursday afternoon, Yoes said the man remained imprisoned at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center in Killona.

To protect the toddler, authorities are not releasing any more information.

In a separate incident, St. Charles authorities arrested an Avondale man involved in a hit and run, after they discovered drugs in a car reported stolen out of Beaumont, Texas.

Sheriff Greg Champagne reported that on Feb. 14, at 12:01 p.m., Charles E. Scott, 47, of 300 Georgetown, Avondale allegedly backed the vehicle he was driving into the side of a building located at the Lakewood Shell Station in Luling.

Fleeing arrest, Scott ran into a wooded area south of 121 Lakewood Drive, conveyed Champagne.

While authorities were investigating the incident, they found marijuana inside the vehicle and discovered the automobile was reported stolen in Beaumont.

Scott was quickly captured by several officers.

He was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen auto over $500, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, hit and run driving and being a fugitive from the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Scott’s bond was set at $27,550.
