LAPLACE-Concluding their season on a very high note, the East St. John Wildcats defeated H.L. Bourgeois 57-49 Friday night to finish the season 23-16 and 11-5 in district 6-5A.

Going in as a wildcard, the Lady Wildcats now are faced with the momentous challenge of trying to defeat XXXXXXXXXXXX in the first round of the playoffs. Game-time is set for XXXXXXXX at XXXXXX.

Finishing the season on a winning note, Stasha Thomas had 10 points in the defeat of H.L. Bourgeois.

Grabbing the lead in the second half, a 18-14 final quarter gave East St. John the victory.

“I think that we are going to be a dangerous wildcard heading into the playoffs,” Lady Wildcats head coach Troy Giordano said. “We have a big mountain to climb regardless of who we are playing, but we just played three ranked teams in the state in a row and we beat the last one in their gym.”

Giordano said his team must play near perfection if they are to have any chance to pull off the big upset.

“We are going to have to rebound,” Giordano said. “We are going to have to stop giving up transition points and we are going to have to make teams play a half-court game against us.

“If we can do that and rebound well and limit our turnovers which is the third thing, we will have a chance.”

One thing Giordano said his squad does have in their favor is their experience.

“Experience is going to be huge,” Giordano said. “Because I know right now that my point guard will be able to handle any pressure thrown at her. Hopefully we draw a team with very little experience in the playoffs.”
