Eagles star guard scores 46 and 44 in wins over Tara and Lutcher

RESERVE-Things are continuing to go well for the Reserve Christian boys basketball team.

With the state playoffs approaching, the Eagles picked up a pair of wins this past week against higher classification teams.

Reserve defeated 3A Lutcher, 93-57 and defeated Class 5A Tara, 96-60 Saturday afternoon at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge.

With the pair of wins, the Eagles are now 31-13.

Junior guard Demond “Tweetie” Carter had a phenomenal pair of games. Carter scored 46 points in the victory over Lutcher and had 44 points in the victory over Tara in Baton Rouge.

Against the Bulldogs, Demetruis Akseheroglon and Kevin Branch also had solid games as they both had 10 points.

Aksehroglon followed up his performance against Lutcher with 13 points against Tara and was joined by Justin Porter who had 13 points and Branch who finished with 12.

RCS Head Coach Tim Byrd said his team is on a roll heading into the playoffs.

“We had a good week,” Byrd said. “We got off to a slow start in the first half against Lutcher, but we made some adjustments in the second half defensively and took it to the basket more in the second half because they (Lutcher) were taking away the 3-pointer.”

Outscoring the Bulldogs 25-11 in the third quarter, Byrd credited the defensive effort that gave his team a lot of easy baskets.

“We focused on their two best players in Mitchell and Marshall,” Byrd said. “We were able to get Mitchell into foul trouble. They had a real tough time getting a good shot.”

Byrd said an all-around performance was the difference Saturday against the Trojans.

“We had a good team effort,” Byrd said. “To go with that, Tweetie really put on a show. He made 10 3-pointers and finished with 44 points and had seven assists. He pretty much dominated the entire game.

“We are getting good contributions from six-seven guys and then Tweetie is just going to a whole other level and we are just playing really good basketball right now.”

Following Carter’s entire basketball career, Byrd said the Baylor commitment is reaching heights that he has never seen.

“I saw him play for a state championship in AAU when he was 13,” Byrd said. “Going up against 14-year-olds and he was just dominating out there to. The way he is playing right now is just simply dominating.”
