RESERVE-Head Coach Tim Byrd’s Reserve Christian squad is may not only the best team in Class B.

They are arguably the best team in all of the state.

Taking on 2A power St. Thomas Aquinas on the road, the Eagles defeated them handily 105-61.

As he has done for most of the season, Demond “Tweetie” Carter led Reserve Christian with 31 points. Kevin Branch also had a solid game with 23 points. Demetruis Akseheroglon and Tino Brozos also each had 10 points.

With the win, the Eagles improve to 29-13 on the season.

After taking on Lutcher last night, RCS closes out the regular season with a trip to Houston, Texas to take on Livingstone in a double-header next Friday and concludes the regular season a week from Monday against Country Day at home.

A game never in doubt, the Eagles broke out to a huge 62-26 lead at the half in route to the blowout victory.

“We made 18 3-pointers,” Byrd said. “We shot the ball pretty well and our half-court zone trap defense really hurt them.”

Byrd credits his pressure defense with creating a lot of easy baskets.

“We did force a lot of turnovers,” Byrd said. “That did allow us to get some transitions baskets which are always good.”

Scoring 31 points, Carter continues to lead the Eagles along with Kevin Branch.

“He’s actually not back to 100-percent yet,” Byrd said of Carter. “But he had a tremendous game with 31 points and 12 assists. He’s not totally back yet.

“Branch really had a great game. Tweetie had seven 3-pointers, Branch had five. It is the best that he has played in a while.”

With the playoffs approaching, Byrd likes how his team is playing.

“I do like the way that we are playing,” Byrd said. “We have got a talented team. I’m getting good contributions from seven guys and we are playing with a lot of chemistry right now.”
