LAPLACE-There are a lot of smiles in Lafayette Louisiana right now.

That is because All-State tailback Tyrell Fenroy signed to play football for the Ragin’ Cajuns of Louisiana-Lafayette on Wednesday.

Fenroy said the proximity to his hometown was a major factor in deciding to sign with Louisiana-Lafayette.

“I wanted to stay in-state so that my family can see me play,” Fenroy said.

A bruising running back with very deceptive speed, Fenroy will supply the Ragin’ Cajuns with something that they were lacking throughout the 2004 season, versatility.

Being so close to home was not the only reason that Fenroy chose to sign with the Ragin’ Cajuns.

“I feel very good about my chances to be able to play as a freshman,” Fenroy said. “That had a lot to do with it.”

Planning to major in Computer Science once he enrolls at Louisiana-Lafayette, Fenroy said his family continues to remain an important part of his life.

“My older brother Melvin Fenroy Jr was the person who had the greatest influence on me to try and stay in-state,” Fenroy said. “Staying so close to home allows my family to come see me play and that is very important to me and I look forward to it.”
