RESERVE-The rest of the teams in Class B just got a whole lot nervous.

That’s because they have discovered that Reserve Christian’s boys squad is a lot more than just Demond “Tweetie” Carter.

Resting their star guard, who was suffering from an injury, the Eagles still had a customary big victory. RCS beat Houma Christian, 74-55 Tuesday night.

With the win the Eagles improve to 27-13 on the season and remained perfect in district 12-B play witha 7-0 record.

In Carter’s absence, Justin Porter scored 19 points to lead the Eagles. Tino Brozos also had a solid night with 14 points.

Jumping out early on Houma Christian, the Eagles outscored them 24-9 in the first quarter and never really looked back.

Reserve Christian boys head coach Tim Byrd was happy to come away with the victory.

“We came out in the first quarter and really played well,” Byrd said. “Demetruis Akseheroglon went down with an injury after that and we really lost some of our intensity after that which was disappointing.

“I was really pleased with our performance in the first quarter, but in the last three quarters I didn’t feel like we played with a whole lot of intensity. We played good enough to win.”

Byrd said the difference in the game was his team’s impressive effort in the first quarter, particularly on the defensive side.

“We really got after them,” Byrd said. “We played really good defense. We played with a lot of energy and attacked the basket. Once Demetruis went down, we didn’t attack the zone defense that they threw against us.

“They (Houma Christian played a zone defense against us and we started settling for too many outside jumpshots.”

A prohibitive favorite to win district 12-B, Byrd was happy to be able to get his best player healthy and back to 100-percent in time for the ever important playoff run.

“At this point of the season you have got to be trying to get your team in a position to make a final run,” Byrd said. “You have to be playing your best basketball.

“Right now you don’t look at who you are playing. You look at your own team. You have to try and get your own players to play according to their ability. I thought we had a little bit of a letdown in this past game, but it was a good chance for us to rest Tweetie and have the rest of our team play without him.

After taking on Northlake Christian on Friday, the Eagles return to action on Monday against St. Thomas Aquinas on the road and then travel to take on Lutcher next Friday.
