Making it known that there is another team in district 10-2A, the Riverside boys won yet another game Friday night and this time it was an overtime thriller.

The Rebels defeated Redeemer-Seton, 68-65, to pick up the big district victory.

Josh Labiche led the Rebels with 29 points and Chris Fontenot added eight.

The victory over Redeemer-Seton pushes the Rebels record to 17-8 on the season and 3-1 in district 10-2A action.

Trailing heading into the final period, the Rebels erupted in the fourth quarter, outscoring Redeemer-Seton 22-12 in the final period to force the overtime.

Riverside head coach Tommy Monier said after the game that his team is lucky to come out with the victory.

“We’re not happy that we still have that one lost in district, but the way we are playing I guess we cannot complain,” Monier said. “We’ll take it.”

Struggling for the first three quarters, Monier said his team did not play well at all the first part of the game.

“We just didn’t play well at all,” Monier said. “Everything that could have gone for us went wrong. We were in foul trouble early. They probably shot almost 80-percent from the field and we probably on shot about 20-percent. It was just one thing after another and it kind of mounted on us and we found ourselves down 10 heading into the fourth quarter.

“In the fourth quarter we just wanted to keep chipping away at the lead. They (Redeemer-Seton) didn’t play a whole lot of guys so we knew that we would be conditioned to be able to try and go after them in the fourth quarter. I think we just wore them out.

Monier also credited his bench’s performance.

“We had so many kids come off the bench and do a great job,” Monier said. “Guys who really don’t get a lot of credit had a bucket here or a bucket there. It was nothing spectacular but defensively they did a little bit of everything to get us back in the game.”
