For the first time in what seems forever, the Reserve Christian boys faced a significant challenge against a team from the State of Louisiana.

The Eagles were up to the challenge last week as they defeated Assumption 73-68.

Demetruis Akserheroglon led the Eagles with 20 points. Demond “Tweetie” Carter had 18. Kevin Branch and Tino Brozos also had solid nights with 15 and 10 points respectively.

With the win, RCS improved to 25-13 on the year. The Eagles return to district play this week.

Outscoring Assumption 22-16 in the third quarter, RCS head coach Tim Byrd was happy with his team’s performance.

“It was a good game,” Byrd said. “A very close game. The lead switched hands between the two teams a lot. We played good in spurts.

“In the third quarter we built a lead because we were able to move without the basketball. Defensively we switched from a man-to-man defense to a zone and they (Assumption) had trouble getting quality looks at the baskets. We just want to finish up district play and take each game one at a time and start trying to build on each game and win.”
