It was just not a good night for either St. Charles Catholic basketball team earlier this week.

In addition to a heartbreaking loss by the boys squad, the Lady Comets also fell in a close game, losing to Donaldsville 40-39.

Rynique Perkins led the Lady Comets with 19 points and Mary Clement had 12 in the loss.

The defeat drops St. Charles Catholic to 11-14 and 1-3 in district play.

Lady Comets head coach Erin Remondet said she was disappointed that her team could not grab the victory on the road.

“What really hurts us is that we had our chances to win,” Remondet said. “We just came up a little bit short. They (Donaldsville) are undefeated through the first round of district play. It really would have made a big difference in the district standings if we could have come out with a win on the road.

“We were really out of control and unsettled in the first quarter. We finally settled down and our 2-3 defense really worked out well for us and we held them to a low number of points throughout the game.”

Remondet said the difference in the game was her team’s inability to play well when it counted the most.

“Making the crucial mistakes when it counted the most really lost the game for us,” Remondet said. “I have just been telling the girls that we still have a chance to go undefeated in the second half of district play.

“We can run the table in the second half of district play and get ourselves into the playoffs.”
