This is the type of team that fans of the East St. John Lady Wildcats are used to watching.

Stepping out of district play, the Lady Wildcats snapped a three-game losing streak Friday night with a 68-35 defeat of Archbishop Chapelle.

Crystal Fleming led East St. John with 16 points and Kimijuan Anderson had 14. Randi Donald added 12 and Stasha Thomas had 10 points.

With the win, ESJ (16-14, 5-3) returned to district action last night against South Lafourche. The Lady Wildcats will conclude their week Friday when they travel to Central Lafourche.

“This was a team earlier this season that we were only up by two at the half,” East St. John head coach Troy Giordano said. “We ended up beating them by 15 then. We came out this game with the full-court press and just jumped on them early. We just knocked them out the game early on.

“We were up 40-10 at the half. We were more talented, more athletic and we made it a full-court game. The press allowed our athletic ability to take over and that was it.”

Displeased with his team’s performance as of late, Giordano like how his team responded against Chapelle, but said the true test comes this week with the return to district play.

“I’m hoping we respond,” Giordano said. “I want to wait and see how we do in district. This was a non-district game but we did need to come back and respond with a big win. We came out with some more emotion than we had been showing.

“The real test comes this week. We were on the road yesterday. Hopefully we respond well. I think we are ready. I think we are getting to where we need to have been playing all year long.”
