BATISTE

ST. JAMES – Deborah Ann Dennis Batiste, 54, a native of St. James and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 7. She was the wife of Milton Batiste.

She was also the daughter of Alma Treaudo Dennis, and the late Austin Dennis Sr., and sister of Irma Varner, Audrey Verdin, Rosebelle Brown Ernestine, Joseph, Rosemary, Austin Jr., Charles Sr., Herman and Dale Dennis.

Services were Jan. 13 at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, St. James, with interment at the church cemetery.

DAVIS

EDGARD – Earline Washington Davis, 74, a native and resident of Edgard, died Jan. 12. She was the wife of the late John Henry Davis, and mother of JoAnn Borne, Mabelene Jones, Jessie Wallace, Shirlene McClindon, Raymond and Adam Washington, and the late Lytta Davis.

She was also the daughter of the late Frank and Hattie Washington, and sister of Merlin Washington, and the late Gennetter Johnson, Norris, Roosevelt and Leroy Washington.

She is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m., at New St. Peter Baptist Church, Edgard, with interment at Young Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

EVANS

ST. ROSE – June Marie Evans, 49, a native and resident of St. Rose, died Jan. 6. She was the daughter of Onesther Eugene and Earl Alfred Evans Sr., and sister of Cheryl Brown, Lucredia Ingram, Cassandra Harris, Katrina Butler, Sonja Blount, Melanie Aubuert, Earl Evans Jr., and the late Patrice Jarrow.

Services are today at 11 a.m., at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, St. Rose. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

FASSBENDER

METAIRIE – Sgt. Huey P. Fassbender III, 24, a resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 6, as a result of an explosion in Iraq. He was the son of Huey Fassbender Jr., and Sandra Norra, stepson of Johnny and Jeanne Nouri, brother of Jamie Lee Fassbender and Brian Norra.

He was also the grandchild of Lolly Fass, Vance Blankenship, Rosemary Hurst, and the late Huey Fassbender Sr., and Calvin Hurst. He was also the great-grandchild of Cora Hernandez.

He was also the nephew of Randy Hurst, Liz Ashley, Shawn, Kevin and Jay Fassbender.

Services are today at 10:30 a.m., in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 4747 Veterans Blvd., Metairie, with interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

FRANKLIN

LUTCHER – Emma “Jeanie” Jean Ursin Franklin, 54, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Jan. 6. She was the mother of Rochelle, Iris, Vincent and Wendelle Franklin.

She was also the daughter of the late Wilbert Sr., and Ernestine Shiloh Ursin, and sister of Valeria Ingram, Debra Robertson, Linda, Wilbert Jr., and Elvin Franklin, and the late Iris Davis, wilfred and Willie Ursin Sr.

She is also survived by four grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were Jan. 12 at King David Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at Golden Wreath Cemetery, Lutcher.

GAUPP

METAIRIE – Wayne Gaupp, 73, a native of Oxford, Miss., and resident of New Orleans and Destrehan for 55 years, died Jan. 9. She was the wife of Dr. Myles Gaupp Sr., and mother of Stephanie Johnston, Karen Gaupp-Wozniak, Dr. Myles Gaupp Jr., and the late Gregory Duncan.

She was also the sister of Ruby Camburn.

She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchildren.

She was a driving force in the River Road Historical Society and sparked the preservation and restoration of Destrehan Plantation. She was also a founding board member of the St. Charles Council for Prevention of Child Abuse.

Services were Jan. 12 in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery, Destrehan.

JAMES

LAPLACE – Peter James Jr., 84, a native and resident of Edgard, died Jan. 12. He was the husband of Claire Lee James and father of Beverly Washington, Gloria Knight, Linda Wilson, Peter, Carl and Melvin James. He is also survived by eight stepchildren.

He was also the brother of Shirley Schnyder.

He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.

He was a retired employee of the St. John Parish School Board and Schwegmann Supermarket.

Services are today at noon at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, LaPlace, with interment at Providence Rest Haven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

THOMAS

KENNER – Toni H. Thomas, 53, a native of New Orleans and resident of Destrehan, died Jan. 7. She was the wife of Tommy Thomas, former wife of Thomas Johnson Jr., mother of Byron Hitchens and Barry Johnson.

She was also the daughter of the late Doris Washington Evans and Clarence Hitchens, stepdaughter of the late Ernest DuBose Sr., and Lawrence Evans Jr., sister of Marlita Williams, Ernest DuBose Jr., Lawrence Evans III, and the late Michael DuBose, and stepsister of Ivy Sampson.

She is also survived by three grandchildren.

Services are today at 10 a.m., at Oakland Baptist Church, Kenner, with interment at Providence Park Cemetery, Metairie. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

ZERINGUE

PAULINA – Earl “Pete” Joseph Zeringue Sr., 85, a resident of St. James Parish, died Jan. 10. He was the husband of Josephine B. Zeringue and father of Brenda Garcia, Barbara Accardo, Peggy Oubre, Maureen Hebert, Earl “Butch” Jr., and Keith Zeringue.

He was also the son of the late Arcade and Elise Zeringue, and brother of Hazel Guidry, Annabelle Schexnayder, Donna Vicknair, Gloria and Ray Zeringue, and the late Grace Faucheux, Myrtis Lambert, Elsie Guidry and Harry Zeringue.

He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 12 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church mausoleum.
