LAPLACE – Brittany Vicknair, a 2004 graduate of St. Charles Catholic High School, will pass the 2004 Carnival Ball Queen’s tiara to her successor tonight.

Taking part in this year’s traditional ceremony is no small feat for the 18-year-old LaPlace resident.

Brittany was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis three months ago. She bravely fought the disease with the help of family, friends and many, many strangers. Everyone from near and far pitched in with donations, gifts and prayers for the young lady and her family.

She survived the disease, but lost both legs below the knee before her ordeal was over.

But that won’t stop her determination to return as last year’s Queen of the Carnival Ball at St. Charles Catholic, and walk out to crown the new royalty.

Brittany has been fitted with prothesis on both legs, and will take her ‘miraculous’ walk at the 2005 Carnival Ball this evening.
