BABIN

LAPLACE – Oscar “Butch” Babin Jr., 63, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Nov. 9. He was the husband of Sylvia Villemont Babin and father of Angie Cambre.

He was also the son of the late Oscar Sr., and Lydie Brignac Babin.

He is also survived by two grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 11 at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

FRANCOIS

EDGARD – George E. “Spike” Francois Sr., 79, a native and resident of Edgard, died Nov. 6. He was the husband of the late Dorothy P. Francois, and father of Moyna Numa, Leona Bailey, George Jr., Nathaniel, Charles, Bobby, Reginald, Franchester, and the late Herman and Roland Francois.

He was also the son of the late Welman Francois and Luma B. Chandler, and brother of Geraldine Fields, Yvonne Fisher, Camille Johnson, Carol Ann Doley, Mary and Betty Chandler, and the late Audrey Robertson, Frederick and Leroy Chandler.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

MEGGS

ALGIERS – Raymond Leo Meggs, 71, a native of New Orleans, resident of St. Rose for 35 years and resident of Marrero for one year, died Nov. 5.

He was the fathe of Shaun Weary, Wendell and Raymond Meggs Jr., and stepfather of Mary Smith and Valerie Smith.

He was also the son of the late Ruth Naomi Davis and Ferdinand Meggs Sr., stepson of Marion Vincent, brother of Ella Mae Hayes, Sadie Brown, Albertha Harrington, Ferdinand Jr., the Rev. Clarence, the Rev. Ozzie and Michael Meggs.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 12 at St. Joseph Outreach Baptist Church, Algiers, with interment at Carrollton Cemetery, New Orleans.

NELSON

ST. JAMES – Gustavia Davis Charles Nelson, 73, a native and resident of St. James, died Nov. 7. She was the wife of the late Rev. Joseph Nelson Sr., and mother of Hazel Rodrigue, Gloria Smith, Lisa Hart, Shelia, Shelita, Mary, Paulette, Joseph and Clyde Nelson.

She was also the sister of Geneva Everitt, Eloria Martin, Delores Charles, Julia Adams, Edward Jr., Morris Sr., Matthew, Alvin, and the late Isaac, Israel, Jacob, Romales and Ivory Charles.

She is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m., at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, St. James, with interment at Buena Vista Cemetery, Lemonville. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

ROUSSEVE

EDGARD – Helmuth V. Rousseve Sr., 96, a native and resident of Edgard, died Nov. 8.

He was the father of Lona Millet, Peggy and Helmuth Rousseve Jr.

He was also the son of the late Emile and Eva Rousseve and brother of the late Rhea Lapayrolerie, Roland, Edwin and Lionel Rousseve.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were Nov. 12 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.
