LAPLACE – The Louisiana State University Agricultural Center received a generous gift from the St. John Parish Council Tuesday night.
Fifty acres of property along Airline Highway near Regala Park in Reserve were donated for the construction of a 4-H Educational Center.
The project needs another 50 acres for its development, and this matter will be discussed between the Agricultural Center and the council in the near future.
The core of the Education Center will reflect many goals. Among those are instruction for youths from Southern Louisiana, especially those from at-risk families; and housing an area for sports.
The location in St. John Parish was chosen due to its proximity between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
In other news, the council

passed a resolution to dedicate property for the development of a military park and memorial in front of the St. John Airport.
The property, which measures approximately 450-feet by 190-feet, is located at the corner of Airline Highway and Airport Road.
A display of U.S. military equipment and the construction of a military memorial in conjunction with the American Heritage Foundation are at the center of the project.
In addition, the park-like setting will depict all services of the U.S. military, including St. John Baptist resident that served during major conflicts.
The resolution states that this area will provide an interesting and comfortable setting for interested residents and tourists. Also, it is anticipated that the area can interact with the future Veterans Home to be built nearby.
