Safety fair in LaPlace set today

LAPLACE – A free Kids Safety Fair is set today from 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. With food, prizes, demonstrations and more attractions, at 117 Belle Terre Blvd., in LaPlace.

The event, co-sponsored by Keller Williams Realty, Omni Bank, the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office and L’Observateur, is designed to make families more aware of the dangers that face children and the preventative steps parents can take to keep them from being victimized.

A CPR demonstration is planned, along with a karate demonstration and a K-9 team demonstration.

The event will be in the parking lot of Keller Williams on Belle Terre Boulevard.

Vigil set for victims of violence

LAPLACE – A tri-parish candlelight vigil is planned Oct. 21 to commemorate the victims of domestic violence at the LaPlace Church of Christ.

The event, which starts at 6:30 p.m. At 1909 Airline Highway (across from Taco Bell), will feature a number of purple crosses, each representing a statewide victim for this year. Larger crosses will represent a domestic violence victim in the River Parishes.

The event is being held in conjuction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
