ST. CHARLES PARISH – A Ponchatoula man was arrested for issuing a worthless check valued over $5,800, according to Capt. Pat Yoes with the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Yoes said 29-year old Randy R. Whelan was charged with issuing a non sufficient check in the amount of $5,881 in Oct., 2002.

According to Yoes, the check was written from an account that did not have funds in it.

Whelan allegedly received a demand letter by certified mail demanding payment on the NSF check. He refused to cover the check, said Yoes.

The Public Information Officer went on to say that a warrant for Whelan was not issued until February 13, 2004.

Whelan was just recently arrested in Jefferson Parish.

No additional information could be obtained on the matter from the Sheriff’s office or the District Attorney’s office.
