Fight call becomes drug bust

LAPLACE – A LaPlace man involved in a fight was arrested by authorities for having cocaine in his possession.
When deputies from the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office recently responded to a fight on Redwood Street, they were told that one of the men involved in the altercation had fled. Deputy Graham Saturley found the man. He is identified as Hayward Jones, who resides at 429 Orange Loop. Jones allegedly told Saturley his last name was Joseph. He was nervous and sweating heavily.
Suspicious of the individual’s behavior, Saturley began a weapon’s check. Jones allegedly turned and tried to run but Saturley kept his grip. The deputy managed to subdue and arrest Jones even after further resistance was allegedly raised by the individual. A clear, plastic baggy containing numerous pieces of cocaine were allegedly found in Jones’ pant pocket.
Jones was charged with resisting an officer by refusing identification, resisting an officer by flight, resisting an officer by resistance/violence and possession of a schedule II controlled drug substance.
