RESERVE-The 2004 Cub Scout Day Camp, directed by Nanette Kunkel and with program director Gina Pastureau, hosted 77 boys from across the River Parishes region, including seven Cub packs and three Boy Scout troops.
The theme for the 2004 camp was “High Flying Fun.”
Among the activities the boys participated where marksmanship, archery, making air balloon and learning about tornados, rockets and squirrel feeders.
A special event during the June 14-18 day camp was a visit to St. John Airport in Reserve, where the Cubs learned about airplanes, helicopters and ultra-light planes.
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders, and organizations work together to achieve the purposes of Cub Scouting.
The ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:
character development, spiritual growth, good citizenship, sportsmanship and fitness, family understanding, respectful relationships, personal achievement, friendly service, fun and adventure and preparation for Boy Scouts.
Currently, there are nearly 900,000 Cub Scouts in the United States, in more than 53,000 Cub Scout Packs. For more information, call Nanette Kunkel at 535-3185.
