Take note of your Bible’s notes

“Get High on Life” – Harold Keller
Recently, I attended a funeral and the pastor giving the eulogy acknowledged that he didn’t know the deceased very well. He said that in preparing for the service, he asked the family to see the person’s Bible. As he gave the eulogy, he shared that you can tell a lot about a person by reading the handwritten notes in the front and back of a person’s Bible. He did a great job, and I’m sure the grieving family was pleased with the service.
The next day, i was curious to look at my handwritten notes in the front and back of my Bible.
When I was 45 years old, Pastor Ron Augillard of the Reserve Christian Church gave me a Bible. That was in October of 1980.
Even though I’ve had five Bibles displayed in my home, I had never bothered to read God’s Word. Over the years, I’ve read the Bible and daily refer to it for wisdom and instructions.
I was surprised to see the notes I had written in my early introduction to the Bible. In the front of the book, I wrote the following:
€ God is looking for people who want Him in their lives.
€ What you can’t handle, turn over to God.
€ As Christians, we expect too little. God wants to bless us abundantly.
€ Evangelism is not winning converts – evangelism is sharing Jesus with love.
€ God can’t send a miracle because you are too busy with the problem.
€ We have to be big enough to be small enough to serve.
€ You can give without love, but you cannot love without giving.
€ This generation of Christians is responsible for this generation of sinners.
The following was written in th eback:
€ Anger is the symptom of a proud heart.
€ God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.
€ The secret to greatness is humility.
€ Without faith, it is impossible to serve God.
€ We need responsible people in service, not people in high positions.
€ If you lose your joy, you will lose your vision. If you love your vision, you lose your joy.
€ With God, all things are possible.
I’m reminded that the Bible is God’s Word to me. My notes are reminders of how my daily walk should be.
