Local firefighter participate in fire and Emergency Training

Firefighter Timmie Mire attended 20 hours of Basic Structural Fire Fighting. This class consists of classroom insturction and extensive live fire training, and it provids hands-on training and assists in developing additional skills in fighting fires. Some of the subjects covered meet the requirements stated in the current edition of NFPA 1403, Live Fire Training Evolutions. Subjects included: safety, fire behavior, portable extinguishers, personal protective equipment, ladders, hose, appliance, streams, overhaul and water supply.
Randy attended 20 hours of Pump Operations. This class provides the firefighter with a better understanding of fire apparatus pumps, water supply, delivery capacity and limitations. It also helps the firefighter develop skills in the calculation of fire streams, nozzle pressure and flow, friction loss, water hammer, hydrant capability and pump pressure. This class is recommended for firefighters who have some experience in firefighting.
Each firefighter received a certificate, college credit hours and a trophy as well as knowledge to help the citizens of Fire District #1 and St. John the Baptist Parish.
