DESTREHAN – A Hibernia Bank customer getting cash from an ATM machine at the bank’s branch on River Road in Destrehan was held up Sunday night by a man with a semiautomatic handgun.
Capt. Patrick Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said the victim had finished at the ATM machine and was walking back to his car at 8:25 p.m., when a black male approached him and pulled a small handgun.
When the robber demanded, “Give me the money!” the victim told police he did so, giving the robber his wallet.
The robber then handed the man’s ATM access card back and demanded more money from the bank account. After providing the robber with more money, a car entered the parking lot and the robber, plus two other men waiting nearby, fled on foot in the opposite direction.
The robber was described as 5-8, 170 pounds, wearing a dark, hooded jacket, blue jeans and a blue bandanna over his face.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 783-6807 or Crime Stoppers at 1-877-903-STOP for a possible cash reward.
