KILLONA – A 19-year-old man was apparently shot and killed by his uncle Wednesday night, as he played video games on a television.

This was the first homicide in St. Charles Parish for 2004.

Cappell Williams, of 232 School House Road, was playing video games on a television in a bedroom.

As he played, his uncle, Stacy J. Williams, 36, allegedly walked up behind him and shot him with a .380-caliber handgun at about 10 p.m.

Sheriff Greg C. Champagne said Williams had been living with his uncle and family since his own parents died.

Apparently, Champagne continued, the uncle and nephew had been arguing earlier about the nephew “not helping the family or doing anything productive.”

Following the latest argument, the uncle is reported to have walked out to his vehicle, retrieved his handgun, and returned to shoot his nephew, who died at the scene.

Champagne said the shooting was allegedly witnessed by other family members, who kept the uncle at the scene while the sheriff’s office was summoned.

An autopsy was conducted by the Jefferson Parish Forensic Center on Thursday, and Stacy Williams was booked on a charge of second-degree murder.

He potentially faces a life sentence in state prison, if convicted of that charge.

He is being held at the Nelson Coleman Correctional Center near Killona. The St. Charles Parish Grand Jury issued a true bill Thursday against Williams. Bond was set by 29th Judicial District Judge Robert Chaisson at $700,500.

The case will be prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Howat Peters.

William’s arraignment is set March 9 before Judge Chaisson.
