By Harold Keller-Get High on Life

As a Christian, do you ever get tired of people wanting to give you a book or tape message to help you in your Christian walk? Out of respect, I usually accept the offer, but seldom read the book or listen to the tape. However, there are a few books that have encouraged me and motivated me to be a better person, but I haven’t always put into practice what I read.

A few months ago, a friend of mine who happens to be a pastor kept talking about a book I needed to read. He later gave me the book on one condition – that I read it. I accepted the book under his condition.

After a week of seeing the book resting on the table, I decided to pick it up and started to read. The title of the book is The Purpose Driven Life, by Rick Warren. The author said, and I agree, that it is more than a book; it is a guide to a 40-day spiritual journey that will enable you to discover the answer to life’s most important question: “What on earth am I here for?”

It’s suggested that you set aside 40 days to read one chapter a day of the 40 chapters which promise that you will know God’s purpose for your life and will finally understand the big picture.

The book is easy reading with short, profound chapters that will speak to your heart and could change the course of your life. It talks about life being a test and that our stay on earth is only a temporary assignment. It explains why we were created and for what purpose. It tells how to become best friends with God. God’s family is explained, and as a part of that family, it tells of our community and the church, of accepting our assignment in life, and how to think and become a real servant.

The bottom line is that we were all made for a mission, which is sharing God’s message, becoming world-class Christians, and living with a purpose.

Aside from the Bible, it is without a doubt, the best book I have ever read. I strongly suggest that if you have a desire to get the most out of this temporary assignment (life on Earth), you read the book. I caution anyone that the book could be detrimental to your so-called Christian walk. It will challenge you in every area of your life.

I pray that I will put what I read into everyday practice.

This book may be purchased at any bookstore.
