BABINEAUX

DESTREHAN – Joseph “Spook” Babineaux, 73, a native and resident of Destrehan, died Jan. 29. He was the father of Pattie Chigoy, Lauri Stuart, Geralyn Hosmer and Ricki, Darren and Wesley Babineaux.

He was the son of the late Freddie and Edna Prejean Babineaux and brother of Bertha Delavne, Freddie and Harold Babineaux and the late Ethel Lachbaux and Frederick, Irvon and Eural Babineaux.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a marine oil surveyor.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at the church mausoleum. Visitation starts at 11 a.m.

GRIFFIN

PARADIS – Lloyd A. Griffin Jr., 83, a native of Ama and resident of Luling for 50 years, died Jan. 28. He was the husband of Violet H. Griffin and father of Melba Rankin, Bernice Mott, Katherine Johnson, Kevin Cooper and Emily, Sonjia, Lloyd III, Bruce, Troy, Trent and the late Danny Griffin.

He was the son of the late Nancy Allen and Lloyd Griffin Sr. and brother of Evelyn Pierre, Elsie Dyer, Rita Wright and Arthur and Floyd Griffin.

He is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Celotex Corp. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post 509.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Paradis, with interment at Mt. Pilgrim Cemetery, Ama. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

JACKSON

DONALDSONVILLE – Miller “Big Miller” Jackson Jr., 72, a native and resident of St. James, died Jan. 29. He was the husband of Ida Mae Jones Jackson and father of Shelia Coleman and the Rev. Miller III, the Rev. Welma and the late Sharon and Milton Jackson.

He was the son of the late Miller Sr. and Gertrude Davis Jackson and brother of Fannie Wells, Johnny Gable, Whelma Jackson, Willie Wells and the late Goldie Millsap, Lucille Lowery, Rosabelle Patterson, Florence Lemann and Gilbert Jackson.

He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 1 p.m. at Mt. Salem Baptist Church, Donaldsonville, with interment at Buena Vista Baptist Cemetery. Visitation starts at 11 a.m.

JOHNSON

EDGARD – Early Johnson, 87, a native and resident of Edgard, died Jan. 26. He was the husband of Genevia Isaac Johnson and stepfather of Herbert LaGrange, Olivia Mason and the late Charles LaGrange.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 31 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church cemetery.

JOHNSON

GRAMERCY – Isaac Cody “Bronco” Johnson Jr., 68, a native of Gramercy and resident of New Orleans for 21 years, died Jan. 23. He was the companion of Edwina Knox and father of Debra Riley, Charlotte Duerig, Michael Johnson and Les, Roman and the late Paul and Tony Batiste.

He was the son of the late Isaac Sr. and Evella Johnson and brother of Julia Sabate, Iona Sique, Wanda Banks, Murnell Harton, Delores and Odessa Johnson and the late Shirley Aubert and Tites Johnson.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired postal handler. Services were Jan. 31 at First Community Antioch Baptist Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Paulina.

JONES

NEW ORLEANS – Ada Jones, 90, a native of St. James and resident of New Orleans for 60 years, died Jan. 24. She was the mother of Carrie Haywood and Laura “Lorraine” Anderson and sister of Clara Batiste.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 29 at Second Bright Morning Star Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Providence Memorial Park.

KELLER

DESTREHAN – Marily Baul Keller, 73, a native of New Orleans and resident of Destrehan for 12 years, died Jan. 27. She was the wife of Tyrus Keller and mother of Lauren Columbo, Donna Bivona and David and Neal Keller.

She is also survived by five grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 30 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Destrehan, with interment at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Taft.

LANDRY

CHALMETTE – Shirley Mae Bourgeois Landry, 69, a native of Remy and resident of Chalmette for 47 years, died Jan. 27. She was the mother of Diane Broderson, Catherine Holmes, Peggy Hamilton and Dennis and Evarist Landry III.

She was the daughter of Dennis and Ocienie Lambert Bourgeois and sister of Irene Crespo and Warren, William and Dennis Bourgeois. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 30 at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Chalmette, with interment at St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.

MORRISON

PAULINA – Bertha Bourgeois Morrison, 80, a native of Gramercy and resident of Baton Rouge, died Jan. 29. She was the wife of the late Dee Morrison Sr. and mother of Dee Jr. and Tommy Morrison.

She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena Trosclair Bourgeois and sister of Audrey Leroux, Lawrence Bourgeois and the late Aline Mansuco, Ethel Rizzuto, Jeannette Duhe and Joe, Melvin, Lester and Posey Bourgeois.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8:30 a.m.

PETIT

METAIRIE – Herbert Joseph “Boss” Petit Sr., 84, a native of Hester and resident of New Orleans for many years, died Jan. 29. He was the husband of Gertrude Roussel Petit and father of Brenda Robinson, Barbara Harris and Herbert Jr. and Terry Petit.

He was the son of the late Michel and Evelyn Louque Petit and brother of Evelyn Pitts, Diana Marchese, Rose Louivere, Dorothy Roussel and Harold “Toyd,” Melvin “Billy” and the late Claude, Dudley, Michael, Ronald, Donald and Gerald Petit.

He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 31 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.

SMITH

BATON ROUGE – Elnita Smith, 85, a native of Klotzville and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 24. She was the wife of the late Albert Smith. She was the daughter of the late Melvin and Rachel Miles and sister of Madeline Landry, Ulysses, James and Herman Myles Sr. and the late Hazel Dorsey, Inez Lewis, Mildred Franklin and Edwin Miles.

She is also survived by four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was a retired custodian with the Orleans Parish school system.

Services were Jan. 29 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at Green Oak Memorial Park Cemetery.

STEPTORE

CONVENT – Jeremiah Julius Ester Steptore, 2 months, a native of New Orleans and resident of Convent, died Jan. 29. He was the son of Cornell Jr. and Lydia Ester Steptore.

He was the grandchild of Joylynn Ester and Cornell Sr. and Jaclyn Steptore and great-grandchild of Odile Ester, Delores Steptore and Albert and Esterine Williams.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery.

WILLIAMS

LUTCHER – Christine Johnson “Chrissy” Williams, 63, a native and resident of Lutcher, died Jan. 27. She was the mother of Sondra Coleman, Myra Williams, Yolanda Rome and Styron and Wendell Williams.

She was the daughter of the late Israel Sr. and Emily Gross Johnson and sister of Addie, Emma Lee, James, Israel Jr., Alonzo Johnson Sr. and the late Louis and Joseph Johnson.

She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Israelite Baptist Church, Lutcher, with interment at C.F.B.A. Cemetery, Paulina. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.
