HAHNVILLE – An 18-year-old Destrehan woman was reportedly kidnapped by a neighbor from her bed, tied to a tree and left where she managed to untie herself and call police.
The suspect, Alan P. Yates Jr., 23, of 385 Carolyn Drive, Destrehan, was booked Dec. 22 on several charges after deputies found him hiding behind a tent in his back yard. Capt. Patrick Yoes of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office said Yates allegedly broke into the woman’s home at 4 a.m. on Dec. 22. She awoke, Yoes added, to find him sitting on her stomach, holding a knife to her throat.
Yates allegedly slapped her, then tried to rape her, but she successfully resisted. He then ordered her to get dressed and come with him.
In fear for her life, she did so, and the pair went to a wooded field behind her home on Carolyn Drive, where he ordered her to remove a scarf and shirt. He used the scarf to tied her arms around the tree and the shirt around her head, leaving her eyes uncovered, Yoes said.
“Obviously, they know each other,” Yoes said. “She knew him by name.”
Deputies found Yates in his back yard at 10 a.m., concealing himself behind a tent. He was quickly caught, and booked with second-degree kidnapping, attempted aggravated rape and aggravated burglary.
He remains in custody on a $200,000 bond set by Judge Kirk Granier.
