LULING – Memories, reflections and heartfelt gratitude are among the many emotions to be felt during Sept. 11 events planned in St. Charles Parish Schools.
Events will begin at 7:15 a.m. at Lakewood Elementary School in Luling, where students wearing red, white or blue shirts will take part in the national moment of silence and greet firefighters and deputies invited for lunch.
At Schoeffner Elementary School in Destrehan, at 8:15 a.m., a flag-raising ceremony is set, with a sixth-grader to sing the National Anthem. A local deputy will also be treated to lunch.
At Norco 4-6 Elementary School, starting at 8:30 a.m., students will read poems and stories, and the enrichment class will display “America, the Beautiful” art work.
Destrehan High School will have the first of their two programs, at 8:50 a.m. and 10:05 a.m., which will feature firefighters, deputies, Rep. Gary Smith, the American Red Cross, the school’s marching band, choir and culture club, rap-poetry and essay contest winners.
Luling Elementary School at 9 a.m. will hold a school assembly at the flagpole, with the singing of the National Anthem.
Allemands Elementary School at 9:15 a.m. will have a school-wide community meeting, with the theme, “I’m Proud to be an American,” at the school flagpole. Students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue. Firefighters and deputies are invited to attend to enjoy a continental breakfast.
Carver Elementary and Landry Middle schools, both in Hahnville, have raised funds for the purchase of a bulletproof vest to present to Sheriff Greg C. Champagne. The ceremony will take place at Carver at 9:30 a.m., and the Landry band and chorus will perform.
Also at 9:30 a.m., New Sarpy Kindergarten will greet local firefighters and deputies, programs are planned and students are encouraged to wear red, white and blue.
Throughout the day at St. Rose Primary, students will be signing two oversized cards for the sheriff’s office and the St. Rose Volunteer Fire Department, and a moment of silence is planned during morning announcements.
