BASTIAN

NEW ORLEANS – Herman L. Bastian Sr., 81, a native of Wallace and resident of New Orleans for many years, died July 3.

He was the father of Cherry Reed and Herman Jr., Larry, Dwight, Cedric, Gregory, Kevin and Eliot Bastian.

He was the brother of Dorothy Dupart.

He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was a cook at Holy Cross High School for 25 years, a chaplain for the Jefferson Parish Correctional Facility and a retired deacon for the Archdiocese of New Orleans.

Services were July 6 at St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Little Flower Church, New Orleans, with interment at St. Phillip Cemetery, Vacherie.

BROWN

RESERVE – Roy L. Brown Jr., 62, a native and resident of Reserve, died June 18. He was the husband of Haetok Kim Brown and father of Roy III and Daniel Brown.

He was the brother of Blanche Cambre, Sylvia Scott, Theresa Williams and Deforest, Bernell, Reno, Randell and Lionel Brown.

He was a graduate of Our Lady of Grace High School and served in the U.S. Army for 22 years, where he was decorated with the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Bronze Star, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and meritorious and good conduct medals.

He served as a deputy for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office and also employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Services were June 24 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at Providence Memorial Gardens, LaPlace.

DEWEY

NORCO – Doris M. Dewey, 65, a native of Montz and resident of LaPlace, died July 6. She was the wife of the Rev. Willie Dewey and mother of Lucretia Brown and Darrean Dewey.

She was the daughter of Helen Thomas Seymour and the late Phillip Seymour and sister of Janice Etienne, Alta Mae Wilson and Larry, Edna Mae and the late Phillip Seymour.

She was a retired teacher for the St. Charles Parish school system and Sacred Heart School in Norco.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, Norco, with interment at Providence Resthaven Cemetery, LaPlace. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

HYMES

NEW ORLEANS – Izear Hymes, 82, a native of St. James Parish and resident of New Orleans for most of his life, died July 2. He was the husband of the late Lucy Francois Hymes and father of Kate Hymes-Flanagan, Critty Hymes-Blacknell and Suzan Hymes Rodgers.

He was the son of the late Octave and Mary Hymes.

He is also survived by five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of Longshoreman Local No. 1419. He was also the founder and member of the Lighthouse for the Blind prayer band.

Services are today at 10 a.m. at First Shiloh Baptist Church, New Orleans, with interment at Garden of Memories Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

ORY

METAIRIE – Jeanne Delphine Ory, 78, a native of Vacherie and resident of New Orleans for 62 years, died July 4. She was formerly known as Sister Mary Sebastian, O.P. She was the daughter of the late Ludger “Toute” and Noelle Dufresne Ory and sister of the late John, Anthony, Stanley, Louis, Lezin, Paul, Jefferson, Joseph, Anchange, Jeanne and Idonia Ory and two infants Ory.

She is survived by nieces, Bertha Lindfors, Veronica Champagne, Kellie Gagliano, Barbara Ory and Leona Gill, and nephews Thomas, George, Richard, Joseph, Michael, Steven and Dennis Ory.

She attended St. Mary’s Dominican High School and College and Loyola University. She was a former teacher at St. Leo the Great, Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Matthias and St. Pius schools.

She was also a volunteer at Touro Infirmary.

Services were July 8 in the chapel of Lake Lawn Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at All Saints Mausoleum.

PRESTENBACH

MARRERO – Utah Pitre Prestenbach, 71, a native of Marrero and resident of Luling for 36 years, died July 3.

She was the wife of the late Raymond Prestenbach and mother of Dianne Russell and Rebecca “Becky” Dantin. She was also the companion of Howard Chiasson.

She was the daughter of the late Oben and Euline Rodrigue Pitre and sister of Herbert Pitre Sr. and the late Aubin “Sherman” and Alton Pitre.

She is also survived by one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Services were July 6 in the chapel of Westside Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Westlawn Park Cemetery, Gretna.

WAGUESPACK

GRAMERCY – Lillian M. “Choo” Waguespack, 70, a resident of Gramercy, died July 6.

She was the wife of Hubert Waguespack Sr. and mother of Cathy Bourgeois, Debra Roques and Hubert “Bean” Jr. and David Waguespack.

She was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Mildred Pertius Menuet.

She is also survived by eight grandchildren..

Services were July 8 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gramercy, with interment at St. Joseph Cemetery, Paulina.

WOOD

PARADIS – Ruth LeBlanc Wood, 69, a native and resident of Paradis, died July 7. She was the mother of Vanessa Folse and Barney Jr. and Owen Mullins.

She was the daughter of the late Norbert and Clarice Hebert LeBlanc and sister of Helen Meneley, Daisy Comardelle, Agnes Galliano, Theresa Evans and Rosemary and the late Van “V.J.,” Larry and Clara LeBlanc.

She is also survived by six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private services were held.
