MARRERO – Yet again the Higgins underdogs swept a playoff win from a top ranked team. Tuesday night it was the District champion Wildcats who were blown over after four strenuous quarters at Higgins.

The Wildcats entered the final quarter down by three points, 41-38. With five minutes remaining, Mark Stewart tied the score at 41. However, for the Wildcats it was only the eye of the storm as the Hurricanes rushed forward once again with a 14-6 scoring run to take the lead and the 55-47 win. The Wildcats end their season with a 28-8 record.

The regional win sent the 25-10 Hurricanes against 27-9 Abramson Friday night. Although the Hurricanes finished third in district 7-5A this season, they had a similar fate last year and muscled their way into Lafayette for the Top 28 tournament. Their match with Abramson was the only game in their way of a repeat.

Against Destrehan, the Hurricanes focused on slowing down Stewart, who scored a total 25 points Tuesday, but was not allowed to help a late Wildcat charge.

Higgins had set the tone early, their strong defensive pressure and steals, allowed Destrehan to put up an unusually low 38 points in three quarters. Offensively, the Hurricanes returned to the backboard, putting any missed shots back up three and four times until they got the points.
