ABADIE

SOUTH VACHERIE – Rose Gravois Abadie, 94, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Jan. 18. She was the wife of the late Ozane E. Abadie and mother of Madeleine Lasserre, Clothilde Hymel, Judith Kliebert, Rose Ann Mire, Vickie Schexnayder, Nancy Benoit, Jeanne Clemente, Antoinette, Ozane Jr., Ted and Kenneth Abadie, Dudley Labat and the late Marguerite Labat and Harold and Nolan Abadie.

She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Clothilde Gravois and sister of Louis “Teddy” and Wilford Gravois and the late Maude Waguespack and Dennis, Henry, Leo, Stan, Gaston, Ernest, Edgar and Claude Gravois.

She is also survived by 48 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 21 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.

BECNEL

SOUTH VACHERIE – George “Blackie” Harold Becnel Sr., 83, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Jan. 19. He was the husband of Alice Falgoust Becnel and father of Cathleen Richard and Ralph and George Becnel Jr.

He was the son of the late Ulric and Therese Stein Becnel and brother of the late Isabella “Beo” Weber and Clifford Sr., Thomas and Raymond Becnel Sr.

He is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was an employee of Avondale Shipyards for 33 years.

Services were Jan. 22 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.

BORNE

EDGARD – Robert “Rojee” Borne Sr., 83, a native and resident of Edgard, died Jan. 17. He was the husband of Florence Edwards Borne and father of Charity Bovie, Laura Brown, Walter Edwards and Judy, Rogert Jr., Herbert, Lloyd, Ronald, Henry, Mark, Gordon and Davis Borne.

He was the son of the late Milton and Teresa Mitchell Borne and brother of Joseph Borne and the late Mary Lou Rossell, Gloria Barre, Ethel Hunter and Nell, Aubry, Milton and Martin Borne.

He is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

He was a retired operator for Caire and Graugnard Sugar Refinery.

Services were Jan. 22 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgard, with interment at the church mausoleum.

BOURGEOIS

PAULINA – Henry J. Bourgeois Jr., 76, a native of Morgan City and resident of Gramercy, died Jan. 21. He was the husband of Carol W. Bourgeois and father of Stephanie Hoggatt, Carolyn Bossier, Peggy and David Bourgeois and the late Juanita Istre, Sharon and Micheal Bourgeois.

He was the son of the late Henry Sr. and Mary B. Bourgeois and brother of the late Richard and Kenneth Bourgeois.

He is also survived by four grandchildren.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Services are today at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Paulina, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

DiMARCO

MARRERO – Dominic “Dom” Joseph DiMarco, 74, a native of St. Charles Parish and resident of Boutte, died Jan. 20. He was the husband of Shirley Griffin DiMarco and father of Michael Thomas, Kerri Williams and Alex, Dominique and the late Keith DiMarco.

He was the son of the late Lena Tortorich and Peter DiMarco Sr. and brother of Anne Creel, Marie Howell, Peter Jr. and Joseph Di Marco and the late Lucien Ciro and Anthony DiMarco Sr.

He is also survived by a host of grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services are today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Mothe Funeral Home, Marrero, with interment at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

GUERET

LAPLACE – Joseph Omer Gueret, 83, a native and resident of Reserve, died Jan. 17. He was the husband of Earline Champagne Gueret and father of the late Allen Gueret.

He was the brother of the late Eleanor Champagne and Antoine Gueret.

He is also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services were Jan. 19 St. Peter Catholic Church, Reserve, with interment at the church cemetery.

JACKSON

LAPLACE – Eddie Jackson Jr., 69, a native and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 12. He was the father of Maybeline Emmanuel, Tammy Lennix and Vernon, Ronnie “R.J.,” Eddie III “Ricky,” Kermit, Letrel, Pernell, Laverne and Shannon Jackson.

He was the brother of Delores Reese and Cleveland, Melvin, Klidel, Eunice and Vela Jackson.

No services were held.

JONES

NORCO – Ruth Jones, 88, a native of Norco and resident of Reserve, died Jan. 18. She was the mother of Alma, Ida Mae, Joeannne, Barbara, Dorothy, Carolyn and the late Jean, Edward, Alexander, Robert, Arthur, Joseph and Nathaniel Jones.

She is also survived by a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at Greater Good Hope Baptist Church, Norco, with interment at Montz Cemetery, Montz. Visitation starts at 10 a.m.

LeBLANC

CONVENT – Joseph Bruce LeBlanc, 81, a native of Sorrento and resident of Convent, died Jan. 21. He was the husband of Nelva Puccio LeBlanc; father of Darlene Schexnayder, Patty Sue Webre and the late Steve LeBlanc; and stepfather of Betty Brignac, Marie Keller and Sam Puccio Jr.

He was the brother of Thilda Walker, Audrey Painter, Ruby LeBlanc, Arys Trabeau, Ruby, Emmaline and Elwood LeBlanc and the late Beatrice Schexnayder and John LeBlanc.

He is also survived by four grandchildren, 10 stepgrandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was a retired boilermaker, U.S. Army veteran of World War II an a member of the Union/Convent Volunteer Fire Department.

Services are today at 11 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Convent, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

MIMS

LAPLACE – Bridget Scamardo Mims, 93, a native of New Orleans, resident of Algiers for 50 years and resident of LaPlace, died Jan. 21. She was the wife by first marriage of the late Joseph Scorsone and by second marriage of John B. Mims, and mother of Darlene McDonald, and the late Vito Scorsone.

She was the daughter of the late Antonino and Gaitano Giardino Scarmade, and sister of Virginia Ruffin, and the late Mary Masino, Katherine Fortunato, Joseph, Mike, Tony and Raphael Scamardo.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are Jan. 24 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Millet-Guidry Funeral Home, LaPlace, with interment at St. Vincent de Paul No. 3 Cemetery. Visitation starts at 9 a.m.

NICLOSI

METAIRIE – Robert J. Niclosi, 64, a native of New Orleans, lifelong resident of Metairie and resident of Destrehan for a year, died Jan. 21. He was the husband of June Niclosi and father of Gina Rojas, Stephanie Pillittere, Michael Niclosi and Robert and Craig Ricca.

He was the brother of Harriet Lucas and the late Peter Niclosi Jr.

He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services are today at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, Metairie, with interment at Restlawn Park Cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

PIERRE

NEW ORLEANS – Lucille “Eardie” Pierre, a native of Ama and resident of New Orleans, died Jan. 12.

She was the wife of the late Phillip Pierre Sr. and mother of the late Phillip Pierre Jr.

She was the daughter of the late Gustave and Lucy G. Baptiste.

She is survived by three grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Services were Jan. 22 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, New Orleans, with interment at Resthaven Memorial Park.

PITRE

CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Johnny Joseph Pitre, 55, a native of Luling and resident of Cleveland, Tenn., died Jan. 15.

He was the husband of Tammy Ivey Pitre and the father of Adam and Christian Pitre.

He was the son of Florence Pitre and the brother of Joyce Horn, Jane Ogea, Marilyn Farrell, Hope Zeller, Carolyn Andrews, Helen Johnson and Dick and Thomas Pitre III.

Services were Jan. 17 at Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, Cleveland, Tenn., with interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Cleveland, Tenn.

WALKER

NEW SARPY – Grace Bell Walker, 88, a native of St. Rose and resident of New Sarpy, died Jan. 11.

She was the wife of Mack Walker and mother of James Bell Jr.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services were Jan. 19 at House of Prayer Baptist Church, New Sarpy, with interment at New Sarpy Cemetery.
