LUTCHER – The Miss St. James Parish Sugar Queen Committee recently held its 50th Miss St. James Parish Pageant and its 10th Miss Teen St. James Parish Pageant at Lutcher High School Auditorium. The master of ceremonies was Seth Bourgeois of Grand Point and the mistress of ceremonies was Kathleen Musso Avenel of Mandeville, who won the State Sugar Queen Title in 1987. Many past queens were presented on stage during the pageant. The new Miss St. James Parish is Amy Gravois, the 20-year-old daughter of Ozane and Darlene Gravois of Lutcher. The new queen will represent the parish at the state Sugar Queen Festival in New Iberia at the end of September and represent the parish around the state. Gravois received the queen’s crystal trophy, a $500 wardrobe allowance, a $250 festival allowance, a new queen’s robe and mantel and a crown ring. Gravois won the fashion award, the best interview award and the photogenic award. The First Maid in the Miss Division was Toni Detillier, daughter of Andy and Deidre Detillier of Gramercy. She received a $200 scholarship. The Second Maid in the Miss Division was Kassie Waguespack, daughter of Larry and Renee Waguespack of Grand Point. She received an award and a jewelry prize. The Miss Congeniality Award in the Miss Division was awarded to Jenny Simon, daughter of Mark and Lori Simon of Gramercy. The most ads sold award for the Miss Division went to Renee Pollet, daughter of Peter and Petty Pollet of Grand Point. She received a $100 gift certificate. The new Miss Teen St. James Parish is Sadie Montz, the 17-year-old daughter of Tressie Montz of Gramercy and Brent Montz of Vacherie. She received a crystal award, a total of $300 in cash awards, a weekend trip to the State Sugar Festival in New Iberia and a queen’s ring. Sadie also won the fashion award and the best interview award. The First Maid in the Teen Division was Amy Malbrough, daughter of Wilson and Cindy Malbrough of Grand Point. The Second Maid in the Teen Division was Jennie Louque, daughter of Jody and Kathy Louque of Grand Point. The Third Maid in the Teen Division was Brittney Louque, daughter of Belinda Martin and the late Brent Louque of Gramercy. The Fourth Maid in the Teen Division was Danielle Jenkins, daughter of Regina Duhe and Jerome Jenkins of Paulina. The Miss Congeniality Award in the Teen Division was presented to Heidi Schaff, daughter of Robert and Catherine Schaffof Gramercy. The photogenic award in the Teen Division was presented to Lyndi Martin, daughter of Billy and Gina Martin of Grand Point. The most ads sold award in the Teen Division went to Melanie Diebold, daughter of Anne Boughton of Vacherie. She also received a $100 gift certificate.
