VACHERIE – Alfred “Pop” Butler Sr., 65, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 12. He was the father of Angela Lucas, Melanie Francois, Alfred Butler Jr. No. 1 and Alfred Butler No. 2.Je was the brother of Doris Stewart, Florida Simoneaux and Gloria Butler.He is survived by nine grandchildren.He was the companion of Gloria Braxton.Services are today at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery. RIVER RIDGE – Daniel Richard Chivis Jr., 56, a native of Milford, Texas, and resident of LaPlace for 14 years, died July 8. He was the husband of Mary Chivis and father of Sharon Williamson, Dantrell and Richard Chivis and stepfather of Veronica Rivers and Joe Holmes.He was the son of the late Daniel Chivis Sr. and Willie Mae Houston and brother of Bennie Cooksey.He is survived by four grandchildren.He was a retired U.S. Marine Corps staff sergeant.Services were July 14 in the chapel of Richardson Funeral Home, River Ridge, with interment at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery, Liberty, Miss.HYMEL
VACHERIE – Valerie Marie Weber Hymel, 91, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 15. She was the wife of the late Francis J. “Frank” Hymel Sr. and mother of Francis Jr., Gerard, Allen and Nolan Hymel.She was the daughter of the late Remie and Zulma Dempster Weber and sister of Lizzie Gravois, Althea Kliebert and the late Murphy Weber.She is survived by 17 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.Services were July 17 at St. Philip Catholic Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum.MAURIN
LAPLACE – Gilbert H. “Gil” Maurin, 49, a native and resident of LaPlace, died July 13. He was the son of Alice Montz Maurin and the late Henry C. Maurin Jr. and brother of Greg and Gary Maurin.Services are today at noon at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, LaPlace, with interment at St. John Memorial Gardens, LaPlace. LUTCHER – Gertrude Smith “Gertie” Onellion, 88, a native of Pierre, S.D., former longtime resident of Madisonville and resident of Lutcher, died July 13. She was the wife of the late Willard Onellion Sr. and mother of Bonnie Dunn, Willard Jr. and John Onellion.She was the daughter of the late John and Effie Lewis Smith and sister of the late Verma Chatellier and Bonnie and Walker Smith.She is survived by 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.Services were July 16 in the chapel of H.C. SOUTH VACHERIE – Pauline Philip Oubre, a native and resident of Vacherie, died July 14. She was the wife of the late Freddie Oubre and mother of Catherine Pedescleaux and Freddie Jr., Raymond and Michael Oubre.She was the daughter of the late Stanislause and Natalie Philip and sister of Doretha Keller, Eva Landreaux, Theresa Weber and Fannie, Catherine Frances, Joseph and the late Walter and John Philip.She is survived by a host of grandchildren.Services are today at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, South Vacherie, with interment at the church mausoleum. LAPLACE – Allen Joseph Perilloux, 72, a native and resident of LaPlace, died July 14. He was the husband of Annie Valenti Perilloux and father of Julie Hall, Janet Sistrunk and Bret Perilloux.He was the son of the late Cleveland Sr. and Eva Rousselle Perilloux and brother of Joyce Millet, Cynthia Cambre and Cleveland Jr. and the late G. ST. FRANCISVILLE – Leon Adam Picou Jr., 88, a native of Garyville and resident of St. Francisville, died July 11. He was the husband by first marriage of the late Orel Palmer Picou and by second marriage of the late Mary Joffrion Picou, father of Saundra Overton, Cynthia Picou and Sydney Walker and stepfather of Lynn Lightcap and Leslie Carpenter.He was the son of the late Leon and Mary Picou and brother of Dorothy Vega and Joyce Corry.He is survived by 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
