The Louisiana Catfish Festival in Des Allemands this weekend offers more than just a good time, eating, riding rides, playing games and enjoying friends and neighbors. It, like every fair and festival, help the conomy and showcase our culture. A look at the annual list of fairs and festivals across the state illustrates the fact that Louisianians will find any excuse for a party. Themes range from LaPlace’s Andouille Festival to Rayne’s Frog Festival. Many have festival queens and all offer the finest in local cuisine, as well as showcase the artistic talents of Louisianians. One can go as near as Texas or Mississippi and not find similar festivals as frequently as they can be found in Louisiana. It’s simply part of our way of life. We encourage attendance and participation in Louisiana festivals. We also encourage safety and sanity, especially when it comes to drinking. Here in Louisiana, it’s said we know how to pass a good time. Unfortunately, too many people know how to ruin that good time for themselves and others. Don’t count yourself among that number. Be considerate and sober and enjoy many more years of these events.
