Clean up 61

DEAR EDITOR: Since the improvements to Airline Highway in LaPlace have been completed, wouldn’t it be great if the business community be encouraged to clean up and beautify? There are now bays which contain dirt and weeds. The parish council should encourage those businesses to adopt the bays near them and plant trees, shrubbery and flowers. Then the businesses should maintain them, so that LaPlace will look inviting and prosperous. Many businesses should take a look at the Eckerd’s which relocated on the corner of Carrollwood and Airline. They have beautified their property, and it really is quite attractive. Most of the business places along Airline Highway look as if they are ready to close or have already done so. That unkempt look probably keeps many people from shopping in LaPlace. There are signs asking people to keep their tax dollars in the parish. Maybe, if the business community is encouraged to beautify, this will happen.
