A woman traveling with her 18-month-old daughter was killed Sunday night when she crashed her car into the back of a van on Airline Highway in LaPlace. Liszette Johnson, 26, 220 Mockingbird Lane, St. Rose was traveling southbound near Windsor Drive on Airline, when she hit the back of a 1991 Plymouth Voyager van driven by Kenneth C. Granier, Jr., 35, 470 Marino Drive, Norco. Granier received only minor injuries, and the infant was not injured. After striking the van, Johnson, who was driving a 1996 Saturn, veered into the left lane, crossing the median and going through the northbound lanes of Airline before traveling down an embankment and striking a tree. Johnson was not wearing her seatbelt, and authorities said she would likely have survived had she been. Her daughter was strapped properly in a car seat, and after being examined at River Parishes Hospital, she was released. Louisiana State Police Troop B was called to the scene around 9:05 p.m. Speed is thought to have been a factor, but not alcohol.
